IPTV buffering: why it happens and how to stop it
IPTV buffering is usually the home network, sometimes the player, rarely the server. The checks below tell you which, in order, and what to change.

IPTV buffering happens when the player runs out of video before the next piece arrives, so it stops and waits. The cause sits somewhere between our server and your screen. The checks below work along that path starting at your end, because that is where most fixes are and where you can act tonight.
First question: one channel or all of them?
Play three or four channels from different groups, then a film from the library. If one channel out of the 25,000+ in the line-up buffers and the rest play, the feed for that channel is the cause, and no setting at home will change it: try it later or send us its name and group. If everything buffers on one device but plays on a phone in the same room, the device or its Wi-Fi is the cause. If everything buffers everywhere, carry on down this page.
The checks, in order

Test the speed on the TV device, in the evening
A speed test on your phone measures the phone. Run one on the Firestick, box or TV itself, with a speed-test app from its app store or a speed-test website in its browser, between 8 and 11pm when the line is busiest. Run it twice, with the house busy and with it quiet, and compare both results with the table below.
Move off Wi-Fi, or onto 5 GHz
A network cable is the single change that cures the most buffering. Many Android TV boxes have an Ethernet port, and a Firestick takes an Ethernet adapter that sits between its power cable and the stick. If a cable is impossible, join your router’s 5 GHz network rather than 2.4 GHz: it is faster over short distances, though weaker through walls.
Restart the router and give it space
Restart the router, then keep it in the open: off the floor, out of cupboards and away from the microwave. A stick tucked behind a wall-mounted TV is in a poor spot for Wi-Fi; the short HDMI extender that comes in the box with most Fire TV Sticks moves it out from behind the panel.
Check what else is using the line
Game downloads, console updates, cloud photo backups and other streams all share the same broadband. If buffering lines up with them, pause them or schedule big downloads overnight. On a multi-screen plan, add the streams together: three HD streams need about 30 Mbps before anyone else touches the internet.
Raise the player’s buffer
A larger buffer keeps more video in reserve, at the cost of a slightly slower start. In TiviMate, open Settings › Playback and set Buffer size one step larger. In IPTV Smarters Pro, look in Settings under the player options. Menu names vary between versions. Go one step at a time, because an oversized buffer on a low-memory stick can make things worse.
Switch the decoder and the stream format
If the picture stutters while the buffer bar stays full, the device is struggling to decode rather than to download. Switch between hardware and software decoding in the player. In IPTV Smarters Pro, also try the other Stream Format option, MPEGTS or HLS; one sometimes holds up better on a given connection.
Watch the HD version instead of 4K
A 4K stream needs about two and a half times the bandwidth of HD. If 4K buffers and HD does not, your line or device is at its limit for 4K: watch the HD version of the channel, and read what 4K IPTV needs at home before upgrading anything.
Give the device room to breathe
Sticks and boxes slow down when they overheat and stutter when storage is full. Keep the device out of enclosed spaces where you can, clear the player’s cache (on a Firestick, Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications, then the player, then Clear cache), uninstall apps you no longer use, and restart the device now and then.
How much speed each stream needs

| What is playing at once | Speed needed, roughly |
|---|---|
| One HD stream | About 10 Mbps |
| One 4K stream | About 25 Mbps |
| Two HD streams | About 20 Mbps |
| One 4K and one HD stream | About 35 Mbps |
| Three HD streams | About 30 Mbps |
| Five HD streams | About 50 Mbps |
These figures are for steady streaming with nothing else on the line. Leave headroom for phones, laptops and downloads, and judge your connection by the evening result on the TV device, not by the figure on your broadband contract.
Why TiviMate buffers, and what to check
When TiviMate buffers, the cause is usually the network rather than the app. Four things are still worth checking on a Firestick or Android box: the buffer size under Settings › Playback, one step larger; the decoder, if your version offers a choice; how many playlists and guides it refreshes at start-up, since each one loads in the background; and the app’s cache, cleared from the device’s own app settings. Menu names vary between versions. The TiviMate setup guide covers adding the playlist and the guide so that nothing extra loads.
If you use IPTV Smarters Pro and it also crashes or shows an empty list, the cause is probably the app rather than the line: see the IPTV Smarters fixes for Android boxes.
Buffering on a Firestick
On a Firestick, three things matter most: Wi-Fi placement, free storage and heat. Use the HDMI extender, keep a handful of apps rather than dozens, and add the Ethernet adapter if the router is in the same room. Firestick models without 4K in their name cannot show 4K, so choose the HD version of a channel on them. The Firestick setup guide covers the settings worth changing after installing a player.
Run every speed test on the device that buffers, in the evening. A fast result on a phone next to the router says nothing about a stick behind the TV two rooms away.
When the cause is on our side
If every channel buffers on every device, a wired speed test shows plenty of headroom, and it all started at the same moment, the cause may be ours. Server problems are rare and affect many people at once, and when one happens we message customers in the WhatsApp chat. If you have not heard from us, tell us. Every plan on the subscription page carries 7 days of money-back cover if a fault on your equipment cannot be fixed.
What to send us
Write to +212 663 813 479 with the device and player, whether it is on a cable or Wi-Fi, a photo of a speed test taken on the device in the evening, which channels buffer, whether films from the library buffer too, and the times it happens. With those, we can tell from our side whether the line or the home network is the cause. If you are on the free trial, write before the hours run out so we can work on it together, and see the help centre for other symptoms.
IPTV buffering questions
Why is TiviMate buffering?
Usually because the network cannot keep up at that moment, most often Wi-Fi in the evening. Test the speed on the device itself, move it onto a cable or the 5 GHz band, and restart the router. Then raise the buffer size one step in TiviMate's playback settings and clear its cache. If only one channel buffers, the cause is that channel's feed, not your setup.
Why does IPTV buffer only in the evening?
Because the evening is when everyone is online: your household, your neighbours on the same street cabinet and every streaming service at once. A line that tests well in the afternoon can lose much of its speed between 8 and 11pm. Run your speed test at that hour on the TV device, and use a cable rather than Wi-Fi, which suffers most when the airwaves are crowded.
Will faster broadband stop IPTV buffering?
Only if speed is really the problem. If an evening speed test on the TV device shows less than about 10 Mbps for each HD stream, or 25 Mbps for each 4K stream, a faster package will help. If the test shows plenty but the picture still stutters, the cause is Wi-Fi, the device or a player setting, and a dearer package will change nothing.
Does a bigger buffer stop IPTV buffering?
It helps with short dips in speed, because the player keeps more video in reserve to ride them out. It does not help when the connection is too slow overall, and an oversized buffer can make a low-memory stick slower to start channels. Raise it one step, test for an evening, and fix the network first if the buffer still runs dry.
Why does 4K buffer when HD plays fine?
A 4K stream needs about 25 Mbps against about 10 for HD, and it asks much more of the device's decoder. If your evening speed sits between those figures, or the stick is an older model, HD will play and 4K will stall. Watch the HD version of the channel, or check what 4K needs at home before changing any equipment.
