Set up IPTV on a Firestick or Fire TV

IPTV on a Firestick or Fire TV takes about ten minutes: a player installed with the Downloader app, your login, and the channels on screen.

IPTV on a Firestick needs one extra app before anything else: a player. Fire OS has nowhere to type an IPTV login, so you add a player such as TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro, sign in with the details we send, and the 25,000+ channels, the film library and the TV guide load inside it. The steps below suit every Fire TV Stick that runs Fire OS, from the Lite to the 4K Max and the Fire TV Cube.

Before you start: check which Fire TV you have

Open Settings › My Fire TV › About and read the device name and the software version. If the version line says Fire OS (7 and 8 are the current ones), this guide is for you. On a Fire TV smart TV, the same screen sits under Settings › Device & Software › About.

Some recent models are the exception: the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and the 2026 editions of the Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick HD run Amazon’s newer Vega OS, which installs apps from the Amazon Appstore only, so the players in this guide cannot be added to them. Amazon has said its future sticks will move to the same system, so if you are buying a stick for IPTV, check that the listing says Fire OS, or look at our Android TV and Google TV box guide instead.

You also need the stick online, the login we send on WhatsApp (a username, a password and a server address) and about ten minutes. No login yet? The free 24-hour trial is a complete account and asks for no card.

What you install, and why it comes from outside the Appstore

Two apps do the work. Downloader, by AFTVnews, is a small download manager listed in the Amazon Appstore. The player is not listed there, so Downloader fetches it from its developer and Fire OS installs it once you have given Downloader permission.

Which player? TiviMate has the clearest TV guide on a remote control and is our usual suggestion for the main TV. IPTV Smarters Pro keeps live channels, films and series in separate sections and is free to install. Both read the same login, so you can start with one and switch later. Our comparison of Firestick players goes into the differences.

Step by step: IPTV on a Fire TV Stick

The five steps to set up IPTV on a Firestick that runs Fire OS
The five steps to set up IPTV on a Firestick that runs Fire OS
  1. Install Downloader from the Appstore

From the home screen, open Find › Search (the magnifying glass), type Downloader and choose the app by AFTVnews with the orange icon. Select Get or Download and wait for the install to finish. Leave it closed for now.

  2. Reveal Developer options

Go to Settings › My Fire TV › About. Highlight the first line, the name of your device, and press the select button on the remote seven times. A countdown appears at the bottom of the screen and ends with a message saying you are already a developer. Press back once: Developer options now shows in the My Fire TV menu.

  3. Let Downloader install apps

Open Settings › My Fire TV › Developer options › Install unknown apps and switch Downloader to On. Older sticks on Fire OS 5 or 6 show a single switch called Apps from Unknown Sources instead; turn that on. Leave ADB debugging off, because nothing here needs it.

  4. Download the player with the address or code we send

Open Downloader, allow access to files when it asks, and close the quick-start notes. On the Home tab, select the address box, type the download address or the Downloader code we sent with your login, and press Go. A short notice shows the full address before the download starts: if it is not the one we sent, press back.

  5. Install, then delete the installation file

When the download ends, Fire OS opens the installer. Select Install, then Done rather than Open. Downloader then offers to delete the file it downloaded; choose Delete, and Delete again to confirm. The player stays installed and the stick keeps its storage for the channel list.

  6. Sign in with your login

Open the player and pick the Xtream option: Add playlist › Xtream codes in TiviMate, Login with Xtream Codes API in IPTV Smarters Pro. Type the server address exactly as sent, including http:// at the start and the port number after the colon, then the username and password. Capital letters count, and a stray space at the end is the most common reason a login is refused.

  7. Let the TV guide load

With an Xtream login, both players fetch the channel list and the TV guide by themselves. On a long list the first load can take a few minutes, so leave the stick on until the guide grid fills. If it stays empty, use the player’s own refresh option, shown in the TiviMate setup guide and the IPTV Smarters Pro setup guide.

  8. Put the player on the home row

Open the apps tile (three small squares) from the home screen; new apps sit at the end of the list. Highlight the player, press the options button (three lines) and choose Move or Move to front. Menu names vary between versions, but the options button always opens the choices for the app under the cursor.

Why there is no Downloader code on this page: a code is a short number that stands for a long download address, anyone can create one pointing anywhere, and codes change when a developer moves a file. We send the current code or address with your login on WhatsApp, and our article on the TiviMate Downloader code shows how to check one before you use it.

One login, every Fire TV in the house

Set up a second stick with exactly the same steps and the same login. The login is not tied to one device: your plan only limits how many screens play at the same moment, so a one-screen plan can sit on the lounge stick and the bedroom stick as long as only one of them is playing.

If two people regularly watch at once, a plan with more screens avoids one of them being cut off. The plans page lists every length for one, two, three or five screens.

Settings worth changing after setup

A few Fire OS switches help live TV start faster. In Settings › Preferences › Featured content, turn off video and audio autoplay, so the home screen stops playing trailers in the background while the player loads. Under Settings › Applications, turning off the collection of app usage data does no harm either.

In Settings › Display & Sounds › Display, leave the video resolution on automatic. On 4K sticks, a frame-rate matching switch, where your model has one, can stop the slight judder sometimes seen on film channels; TiviMate has its own frame-rate option as well. Inside the player, start with a medium buffer before changing anything else.

Storage: keep the stick light

A long channel list and a full TV guide take space and memory, and a stick that is nearly full starts to stutter. Check free space under Settings › My Fire TV › About › Storage. Uninstall apps you no longer open, and delete any leftover installation files from Downloader’s Files tab.

Clearing the player’s cache helps when channels open slowly or the guide misbehaves: go to Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications, pick the player and select Clear cache. Stop there. Clear data wipes your login and settings, and you would have to sign in again.

Restart the stick every week or so from Settings › My Fire TV › Restart. It frees memory that background apps hold on to and takes under a minute.

Wi-Fi or an Ethernet adapter?

Allow about 10 Mbps for each HD stream and 25 Mbps for each 4K stream, measured on the stick itself in the evening rather than on your phone in another room. If your line is close to those figures, the connection decides how smooth the picture is, whichever service you use.

On Wi-Fi, use your router’s 5 GHz band where the stick can reach it, and use the HDMI extender if one came in the box, so the stick is not tucked behind the metal back of the TV. When the router is in the same room, an Ethernet adapter for Fire TV is the most reliable cure for evening buffering, and the third-generation Fire TV Cube has a network socket built in. The buffering guide runs through every network check in order.

If something goes wrong

  • Downloader is missing from Install unknown apps: a Fire OS settings bug has hidden it on some sticks. Run Settings › My Fire TV › About › Check for updates, restart, and look again.
  • Developer options disappeared after an update: repeat the seven presses on the device name in About. The permission you gave Downloader is usually still there.
  • Install fails or nothing happens: free some storage, then download the file again.
  • The player refuses the login: retype the server address, username and password. The TiviMate error 401 guide explains each cause and applies to most players.
  • Anything else: the help centre covers the usual faults by symptom, and the WhatsApp desk at +212 663 813 479 answers at any hour.

IPTV Firestick questions

Can I put IPTV on a Fire TV Stick 4K Select or a 2026 Fire TV Stick?

Not with the players in this guide. The 4K Select and the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K and HD run Vega OS instead of Fire OS, and they install apps from the Amazon Appstore only, so Downloader cannot add TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro to it. If you already own one, a smart-TV player or another device is the practical route. If you are buying, choose a stick that runs Fire OS or a Google TV device, both covered in our setup guides.

Is it safe to turn on Install unknown apps on a Firestick?

It is safe when you only install files you trust. The switch lets Downloader install apps from outside the Appstore, and Fire OS still asks you to confirm every installation. Use only the address or code we send, or the player developer's own address, and never approve an installer you did not start. If children use the stick, you can switch Downloader back to off once the player is installed.

Why does my Firestick say there is not enough space to install the player?

The stick's storage is full, often with leftover installation files and apps you no longer open. Delete downloaded files in Downloader's Files tab, uninstall unused apps under Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications, and clear the cache of large apps. Then download the player again. Check the free space under Settings › My Fire TV › About › Storage before you retry.

Which Fire TV Stick is best for IPTV?

Among the current sticks, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max has the most storage and the fastest Wi-Fi, which helps with long channel lists and 4K channels. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max still runs Fire OS and is the sound choice for most homes; a Fire OS stick you already own, from the Lite to an older Fire TV Stick 4K, works too. Avoid the 4K Select and the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K and HD for IPTV, because they cannot install these players. Whatever you choose, 4K needs the right TV and broadband too.

Do I have to set everything up again after a Fire OS update?

Usually not. Updates keep installed players, your login and your favourites. Occasionally an update hides Developer options again, which only matters if you need to install or update a player through Downloader: repeat the seven presses on the device name under Settings › My Fire TV › About to bring the menu back. If a player stops opening after an update, clear its cache first.
