IPTV Smarters Lite is the name most people use for Smarters Player Lite, the Apple version of the Smarters player, found in the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. IPTV Smarters Pro is the fuller version for Android, Fire TV and computers. The two look alike and sign in with the same kind of login, but they do not run on the same devices and they do not offer quite the same features. This guide sorts out which one belongs on which screen, how they differ, and how to sign in to Lite on an iPhone or Apple TV.
Smarters Lite and Smarters Pro at a glance
| Smarters Player Lite | IPTV Smarters Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you get it | Apple App Store | Google Play (as Smarters Pro), Downloader on Fire TV, the developer’s website for Windows and Mac |
| Devices | iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Macs with Apple silicon | Android phones and tablets, Android TV and Google TV, Fire TV on Fire OS, Windows, Mac |
| Login | Xtream-style login or a playlist link | Xtream Codes API or M3U link |
| Live TV, films, series | Yes | Yes |
| TV guide | Yes, in recent versions | Yes |
| Extras such as multi-screen, recording and external players | Fewer | More, depending on the platform |
| Price model | Free with adverts, optional in-app upgrade | Free, with an optional upgrade in some editions |
Feature lists change with updates on both sides, so treat the last two rows as a guide and check the version notes on the store listing before relying on one feature.
Why the Smarters names are so confusing
The Smarters apps have been renamed and republished several times over the years. Today you will meet at least three names: Smarters Player Lite in the App Store, Smarters Pro on Google Play (with separate TV and mobile editions) and in the App Store, and IPTV Smarters Pro, the name most guides and Firestick installers still use.
On top of that, unrelated developers publish look-alikes with “Smarters” or “Smarter” in the name and similar icons. One App Store example is called IPTV Smarter Player Lite, from a different developer altogether. Before installing, check two things on the listing: the developer’s name (for Smarters Player Lite, the App Store shows WHMCS Smarters) and the date of the last update.
How Lite and Pro differ in practice
Both apps cover the essentials the same way: you sign in once, and the home screen splits the line-up into live TV, films and series, with the TV guide for live channels and catch-up on the channels that keep an archive. Both handle a list of 25,000+ channels.
Lite is built to fit Apple’s App Store rules and the Apple TV remote, so it keeps the interface simpler and leaves out some of the extras found on Android. The Android versions of Smarters Pro have offered more: several channels on one screen, recording to the device’s storage, a choice of external player, and more playback settings. Lite’s built-in TV guide arrived in a recent update, so if you do not see it, update the app first.
The free Lite shows adverts, and an optional in-app purchase from the developer removes them and unlocks extras. That purchase is a player upgrade; it adds no channels.
Which Smarters app to use on each device
- iPhone and iPad: Smarters Player Lite. The newer Smarters Pro listing in the App Store is an alternative; your login works in either.
- Apple TV: Smarters Player Lite, signed in as shown below.
- Mac with Apple silicon: Lite installs as an iPad app, which Apple marks as not verified for macOS. A desktop player such as VLC or Kodi is often steadier.
- Firestick and Fire TV on Fire OS: IPTV Smarters Pro, installed with Downloader.
- Android TV and Google TV: the TV edition of Smarters Pro from the Play Store.
- Android phone or tablet: the mobile edition of Smarters Pro; our guide to IPTV apps for Android compares it with the alternatives.
- Windows: IPTV Smarters Pro for Windows, as described in installing IPTV Smarters Pro on Windows.
For the Android and Fire TV install itself, including the Downloader step, follow the IPTV Smarters Pro setup guide. For a wider comparison of Apple players, see IPTV on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad.
Sign in to Smarters Player Lite on iPhone or iPad
Install the right app
In the App Store, search for Smarters Player Lite, check that the developer is WHMCS Smarters, then tap Get.
Accept the terms
Open the app and accept the user agreement. The login screen follows.
Choose the Xtream login
Pick the option to log in with Xtream Codes API. The wording on Apple versions has changed over time; if the app only offers a playlist or URL option, choose it and paste our M3U link instead.
Fill in the four fields
Any name you like for the profile, then the username, password and server URL from our message. Copy and paste from WhatsApp rather than typing. The server URL needs http:// at the start and the port at the end, with no space and no slash after the port.
Add the user and wait
Tap Add User. The first load of channels, films and the guide takes a little while; after that, choose Live TV, Movies or Series from the home screen.
Sign in to Smarters Player Lite on Apple TV
Install from the Apple TV’s App Store
Open the App Store on the Apple TV itself, search for Smarters Player Lite, check the developer and choose Get.
Use your iPhone as the keyboard
Typing a server address with the Siri Remote is slow. When the keyboard appears on the TV, an iPhone nearby usually shows a keyboard notification; tap it and type or paste on the phone instead. The Apple TV Remote in the iPhone’s Control Centre does the same.
Enter the same login
Choose the Xtream login, fill in the name, username, password and server URL exactly as sent, and select Add User.
Tune the picture
In the Apple TV’s Settings › Video and Audio › Match Content, switch on Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate. Fast movement looks smoother when the TV follows each channel’s frame rate.
The same login can sit on the iPhone, the iPad and the Apple TV at once. Only streams playing at the same moment count as screens on your plan.
When neither Smarters app is the right choice
If you want the guide-first layout of TiviMate, note that it does not run on Apple devices at all; on Apple TV, players such as iPlayTV or IPTVX come closer to that style. If you sign in and get an error, the cause is almost always the login details rather than the app: an extra space, a missing http://, or a plan that has ended. The Smarters troubleshooting guide runs through those checks, and most apply on Apple devices too.
Whichever Smarters app you use, it is only a player: it needs a subscription whose Xtream login it accepts, which is what our IPTV Smarters Pro subscription is built around. The easiest test is our 24-hour free trial in Lite on your iPhone and Pro on your stick, with the same login in both.
Short answers on this topic
Is IPTV Smarters Lite free?
Yes, Smarters Player Lite is free to download from the App Store. It shows adverts, and an optional in-app purchase from the developer removes them and unlocks a few extras. Either way it is only a player: it carries no channels and needs a login from an IPTV subscription before it shows anything. Player purchases go to the app's developer, not to your provider.
Is there an IPTV Smarters Pro app for iPhone?
Yes, in two forms. Smarters Player Lite has long been the Apple version of the Smarters player, and a newer listing called Smarters Pro is also in the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Check the developer name on each listing, because look-alikes with similar names exist. Your Xtream login works in either.
Can I use the same login in Smarters Lite and Smarters Pro?
Yes. Both accept the same Xtream username, password and server URL, so you can sign in to Lite on an iPhone and to Pro on a Firestick with identical details. Having the app on several devices costs nothing; only streams playing at the same moment count towards the screens on your plan.
Does Smarters Player Lite work on Apple TV?
Yes. Smarters Player Lite has a version for Apple TV in the App Store, installed from the App Store on the Apple TV itself. Use your iPhone's keyboard prompt to type the login, since entering a server address with the Siri Remote is slow. Switching on Match Frame Rate in the Apple TV's settings makes fast movement smoother.
Why does Smarters Lite say my login is invalid?
Usually because of a small difference in the details: a space pasted at the end of the username, a capital letter in the password, or a server URL missing http:// or the port. Delete each field and paste it again from our message. If it still fails, your plan may have ended or the login changed, so message us on WhatsApp.
